A lively cohort of artists, musicians, and developers recently attended “Launch Your NFT,” the first NFT and blockchain workshop hosted by EOS DETROIT. With 25 scholarships provided by the generous support of the Knight Foundation, this 2-day crash course in blockchain and NFTs featured an all-star cast of experts and hands-on training. As a result of the training, one attendee has already sold his first NFT.

The first day of the conference featured classroom instruction and a fireside chat by Nate Talbot, Executive Director of the nonprofit Detroit Blockchain Center. On the second day, the conference transitioned to hands-on training in the creation of NFTs. There was also a guest presentation by Bre’Ann White, a photographer who recently participated in an NFT launch of Detroit murals sponsored by Ford Motor Company, the Charles H. Wright Museum, and BrandXR.

The schedule included a mix of speaker presentations, functional knowledge, and activities, such as a contest in which students worked in groups to create a business model using NFTs. The winning team created such a good model that they plan to see the business plan to fruition.

Participant artist Daniel Geanes wrote on social media that he “came in ignorant on the broad entirety of NFTs, cryptocurrency, and blockchaining but along with others gained the knowledge of all plus more in the 2 days.” Software engineer Anel Guel posted that she was thankful for the opportunity to attend the workshop, asserting “The future is blockchain.” Guel also said that the “highlight was creating our own WAX wallets and minting our very first NFT.” One participant, artist Trae Isaac, announced that he has already sold the NFT he created during the workshop.

While this NFT and blockchain workshop was the first of its kind hosted by EOS DETROIT, it will not be the last. More organizations and artists have already reached about future participation. 2021 may have been the year of the NFT, but based on the conversations and excitement on display at the “Launch Your NFT” workshop, 2022 is going to be bigger still. Be sure to follow EOS DETROIT for announcements of future workshops.
