Introducing the Rio ECC Travel Reimbursement Fund
- The EOSIO community successfully reimbursed 24 event attendees from 11 time zones at the recent BP Summit in San Francisco (based on miles traveled) and EOS Detroit received lots of positive feedback from the initiative.
- EOS Detroit, in partnership with EOS Rio is excited to announce another Travel Reimbursement Fund for the EOS Community Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 15–18, 2019.
- The goal of the TRF is to subsidize travel costs associated with reaching the EOS Community Conference in Rio de Janeiro and ensure the widest possible representation from our global community. The EOSIO community is a vast network comprised of individuals from around the world and our cultural and geographical diversity ensures a good deal of resiliency for EOSIO blockchains. However, the value in gathering from the furthest reaches of the globe to connect with one another in person is also valuable and provides us with the personal connections, the real-time conversations, and insights we need to grow and evolve as a truly integrated international community.

How the EOS Community Conference Travel Reimbursement Fund will work
Travel reimbursement will only be available to attendees of the EOS Community Conference to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 15–18, 2019 at the Copacabana Palace & Rio Yacht Club. Any time during the event, event attendees can apply for the ‘Travel Reimbursement Fund’ by finding an EOS Detroit team member, filling out a quick form with their travel details, and providing us with an EOS account where you would like your reimbursement to be sent.
Reimbursement will be based on miles traveled (as generally the further, the more expensive). The starting point will be the distance from the airport of departure to Rio de Janeiro. The distance is based on line-of-sight straight point distance, not via/ stop-over distance.
The ‘EOS per Mile’-rate will be the same for all.
After the conclusion of the EOS Community Conference, the application entry closes and the EOS per Mile rate will be determined by dividing total EOS contributed to the official travel reimbursement fund by total miles traveled by all participants. Each account will then be sent a portion of the fund relative to the miles traveled.

The EOS account ‘travelrefund’ is permissioned as a 3/5 multi-sig between 5 BP’s who will take responsibility for managing the fund. They are eos42freedom, eosnationftw, eosriobrazil, sheos21sheos, & eosiodetroit.
EOS Detroit will be contributing 110 EOS (one day’s worth of block rewards) to start the fund. Any BPs that wish to match one day’s worth of block rewards to bootstrap the fund are appreciated!
